Google Calendar introduces a redesign and a new dark mode option.

A highly anticipated feature has finally arrived.

Google is finally rolling out a dark mode for the web version of Google Calendar, accompanied by a "revamped user interface." This new interface will feature buttons, dialog boxes, and sidebars that are "more modern and accessible," as well as improved typography.

The rollout of the update started this week and will soon be available to all users, whether they access it through a personal Gmail account or a paid Google Workspace account. Once enabled on your account, you can activate dark mode by clicking on the settings icon in the upper right corner of the Google Calendar interface. This will open a new dropdown menu where you can select the "Appearance" option to turn on dark mode. Users will also have the option to switch back to light mode or choose to match their device theme.

Before this update, enabling dark mode in Google Calendar on the web required the use of third-party browser extensions that altered its appearance. Google warns that because the update is a "visual revamp," some active extensions may "not function as expected."

Additionally, the Google Calendar interface on the web is undergoing modernization, with controls and dialog boxes featuring a more contemporary design. The company mentions that the new calendar UI will have "readable and crisp iconography with a fresh touch," using "custom-designed and highly legible" fonts that meet Google's Material Design 3 standards. These updates, including dark mode, will also apply to "the entire web experience of the calendar," including the task list view mode.
