GM and ChargePoint plan to install hundreds of fast chargers for electric vehicles before the end of 2025.
GM is managing multiple agreements related to charging networks.
GM has partnered with ChargePoint to develop a new electric vehicle charging network under the GM Energy brand. This project aims to establish up to 500 fast DC charging ports at strategic locations across the United States, some of which will be equipped with ChargePoint's Express Plus platform, enabling charging speeds of up to 500 kW. Both companies intend to roll out these charging stations rapidly, with all installations scheduled to be operational before the end of 2025.
For its part, ChargePoint will provide its Omni Port charging technology, which is compatible with vehicles using CCS ports or Tesla's NACS, thereby eliminating the need for owners to carry additional adapters. Wade Sheffer, vice president of GM Energy, emphasized that the combination of ultra-fast charging, Omni Port technology, and an exceptional customer experience will make electric vehicle drivers and those interested in electrification excited about this collaboration.
This is not GM Energy's only partnership in the electric vehicle charging sector. The automaker also has an active agreement with EVgo, which has already installed 2,000 DC fast chargers as of December. Additionally, GM is developing stations in collaboration with Flying J and Pilot truck stops, and it plays a role in the electric vehicle charging consortium known as Ionna, alongside other major industry names such as Hyundai, Kia, BMW, and Stellantis.
