Garmin launches a major update for customers in the EU and AUS, now with ECG available.

The electrocardiogram is available in a wide variety of watches.

Garmin has expanded the availability of its ECG feature to various regions, including the European Union and Australia, allowing users to access this capability for the first time. Recently, the company confirmed that its electrocardiogram (ECG) application is now accessible in these two territories. This tool allows users to record their heart rhythm to detect possible signs of atrial fibrillation, which can lead to health issues in the future. Users can view the results immediately or through the Garmin Connect app on their smartphones.

The ECG functionality has been present in the smartwatch market for a few years, gaining popularity with the Apple Watch Series 4 in 2018, which included an FDA-approved ECG through its digital crown. Currently, this technology is found in several prominent models, including the Apple Watch, Galaxy Watch Ultra, and Series 7.

Regarding the compatibility of Garmin devices, although the company has not yet updated its support page in this regard, it is known that the models capable of using this feature include:

  • D2
  • Enduro 3
  • Epix Pro (Gen 2)
  • Fenix 7 Pro
  • Fenix 8
  • Quatix
  • Tactix
  • Venu 2 Plus
  • Venu 3
  • Venu 3S

It is important to note that to use the ECG function, both a compatible Garmin device and the Garmin Connect app are required. Additionally, the company has recently launched the new Garmin Instinct 3, a smartwatch designed for outdoor activities, which includes features such as a flashlight, up to 24 days of battery life, and a rugged case, along with a solar version that promises infinite charging under suitable conditions.

Garmin's ECG feature is already available in the United States and in several other countries, including Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, and Vietnam.
