Freelancers prioritize value for money when selecting a web hosting service, without overlooking sustainability.

Sustainability and efficient customer support are gaining increasing relevance.

A recent survey revealed that freelancers consider web hosting a key investment for the growth of their businesses, although sustainability is not their top priority when selecting a provider. According to the findings, these professionals spend, on average, nearly $20 a month on hosting services, which translates to an approximate annual expenditure of $214, with a surprising return on investment (ROI) of 2,319%. Solopreneurs see an even higher ROI, reaching up to 2,846%.

While more than half of the respondents expressed willingness to pay an additional $50 a year for environmentally friendly solutions, their main interest lies in obtaining a tangible return on their investment. Over 54% of participants mentioned that they would consider increasing their spending if offered hosting solutions that favored sustainability, indicating that this aspect is beginning to gain relevance.

Additionally, the study reveals that the migration process between providers is both costly and slow, consuming an average of 6.6 hours or $115 in resources. Despite this, many professionals continue to switch providers frequently due to issues such as cost, performance, or lack of support. In fact, nearly 70% of respondents reported having changed providers at least once, with 13% doing so every year.

Hidden charges and unexpected billing are factors that drive this change, as professionals facing these issues are 35% more likely to seek new providers. David Eblen, Product Director at Liquid Web, commented that it is interesting to see how freelancers and solopreneurs prioritize both sustainability and customer support, offering valuable insights for tailoring offerings to the changing needs of these professionals.
