Forget about the Galaxy S25. Samsung could soon unveil smart glasses.
The Samsung Galaxy S25 event could feature an unexpected guest: Samsung's highly anticipated augmented reality glasses, a product we've been waiting for since 2021.
Samsung is generating excitement with the imminent unveiling of the Galaxy S25, but there are rumors that the company may have something even more innovative up its sleeve. It has been reported that during the Galaxy S25 Unpacked event, scheduled for early 2025, new smart glasses will be announced. According to local sources, these augmented reality devices are expected to have a design similar to conventional glasses and weigh just 50 grams, comparable to regular glasses that typically weigh between 20 and 40 grams.
However, the availability of these glasses will not be immediate, as their public launch is not expected until the third quarter of 2025. Additionally, to ensure consistent development of these products, Samsung is looking to expand its team and strengthen leadership in related areas.
This would not be Samsung's first foray into the wearables technology space. In July 2024, the company launched the Samsung Galaxy Ring, as well as the Galaxy Watch Ultra and Galaxy Watch 7. Over the years, Samsung has also explored virtual reality with the Samsung Gear VR, which, although a successful collaboration with Oculus, was discontinued due to the need for constant redesigns to adapt to new Galaxy phones.
If Samsung decides to move forward with the launch of smart glasses, it could benefit from learning from the partnership between Meta and Ray-Ban, which has resulted in stylish and comfortable glasses with a sleek design and a wide retail network. Additionally, Samsung might consider integrating its Galaxy AI technology into these new devices, following a similar trend seen in brands like Solos.
For now, Samsung has not officially confirmed the existence of these smart glasses nor set a date for its next Unpacked event, although it is anticipated to be in early 2025.
