Football Manager 25 has been cancelled.
Sports Interactive has made the decision not to release Football Manager 25.
Sports Interactive has made the official decision to cancel Football Manager 25, which had been delayed for several months, moving away from the series' usual release date. In its statement, the developer indicated that this decision was the result of extensive discussions with Sega, its publisher, opting to skip this version in order to focus on the upcoming release.
Football Manager is a series of football management simulation games that is generally released annually. The latest installment, Football Manager 2024, was launched in 2023, and the new edition was originally scheduled for November of last year but was postponed until March 2025.
The developer assured that it was confident in its ability to achieve the level of quality it had planned when announcing the new release date in March, but faced "challenges" that prevented it from meeting its goals. Sports Interactive had previously mentioned that progress was slower than expected, which forced the team to rush, jeopardizing their usual standards.
Although the company made progress in "many areas," it acknowledged that the "overall player experience and interface" did not reach the desired level. Sports Interactive intended to deliver "the greatest technical and visual leap in the series" with Football Manager 25, but concluded it could not fulfill that promise if it proceeded with the scheduled release for March. Additionally, it decided not to postpone the release date again as the next title is expected to launch later this year. Users who had already pre-ordered the game will receive a refund for their purchase.
