Foamstars is becoming a free-to-play game starting today.

Foamstars, the multiplayer shooter from Square Enix, has decided to adopt a free-to-play model. Starting today, this team-based multiplayer combat game for four players will be available at no cost on PlayStation 4 and 5 consoles, meaning a PlayStation Plus subscription will not be required to play. This information was communicated through a post on the studio's support page.

Those who purchased the game before this policy change will receive a special gift called the "Legacy Gift." This package includes 12 exclusive variant-colored skins for the Bubble Beastie characters, an exclusive Slide Board design, and a title with the designation "Legacy." Players should keep an eye on the official game website and the X account for details on how to claim their gift.

Foamstars was released earlier this year on Sony's latest and last generation consoles as a third-person multiplayer game. Its gameplay combines base-building elements similar to Fortnite, with the family-friendly approach of Nintendo's multiplayer shooter Splatoon. Teams use foam mounds to create terrain that allows them to move quickly or establish elevated positions to attack their opponents.
