A Xiaomi sub-brand could incorporate an impressive 7,500 mAh battery in one of its affordable smartphones by the end of this year.

The smartphone industry is facing a year full of innovative potential, promising improvements in cameras, more effective applications of artificial intelligence, and new device configurations. One of the most significant advancements could be the incorporation of higher-capacity batteries in phones, opening the door to new possibilities ranging from high-end models to more affordable options.

A rumor that has emerged from a reliable source on a Chinese microblogging platform indicates that a sub-brand of Xiaomi may launch an economical model with an impressive 7,500 mAh battery by the end of this year, likely the upcoming Redmi Turbo 4 Pro. This advancement follows recent additions to the Redmi line, such as the Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus, which features a 5,110 mAh battery. Furthermore, there are reports that an 8,000 mAh battery is in the testing phase at Xiaomi.

This improvement in battery capacity does not necessarily mean a reduction in fast charging, as these devices are expected to maintain the capability of charging at 100 W. The key to this evolution in batteries seems to lie in the use of a hybrid silicon-carbon anode, which offers significantly greater storage capacity compared to traditional graphite. With this technology, batteries can provide higher energy density in a more compact format, thus enabling more efficient charging.

Other brands are also exploring this advancement. Honor was one of the pioneers in implementing silicon-carbon batteries with its Magic 5 Pro, and its latest model, the Magic 7 Lite, has raised the stakes even further with a 6,600 mAh battery. The Red Magic 10 Pro has stood out with an 8,080 mAh battery that allows for fast charging, while Realme and OnePlus have done the same with their models, utilizing this innovative technology without compromising charging efficiency.

The outlook suggests that 8,000 mAh batteries are not far off, and thanks to brands like Redmi and Realme, consumers could access these innovations without having to spend large sums of money.
