Finally, a completely wireless monitor with a battery has arrived, and it's really affordable.
Wirelessly transmit or extend content from any device.
The evolution of portable monitors has progressed significantly, with at least three models launched or presented in the past year. A recent example is the ViewSonic VG1656N, which stands out for featuring a built-in 4000mAh battery and wireless projection capabilities, all at an affordable price of $299.99 USD.
This portable monitor, which has a 16-inch screen, is lightweight, weighing less than two pounds and less than half an inch thick, making it easy to carry in a backpack. It includes a smart case that also serves as protection and an adjustable stand.
The VG1656N offers a native WUXGA resolution (1920x1200) and can operate on battery power for a maximum of three hours, depending on usage. Users can sync content from Windows, Mac, iOS, or Android devices without needing additional applications, thanks to a USB-C wireless dongle.
A noteworthy feature is the integrated G-Sensor, which detects the monitor's orientation and automatically adjusts the screen to horizontal or vertical modes. However, this function is only enabled for wired connections and is not compatible with wireless casting. Additionally, the monitor has two USB-C ports that provide 60W bidirectional power delivery, although the battery cannot be charged through these, requiring a power adapter.
ViewSonic also plans to launch the TD1656-2K in the second quarter of 2025, which will feature a 16-inch touchscreen and a native 2K resolution. According to Jeff Muto, ViewSonic’s business line director, these new desktop monitors, along with existing portable devices, demonstrate the company’s ongoing expansion in offering more options, features, and functionalities to suit any work or leisure style.
