Experience the unveil of the Tesla Cybercab robotaxi in 6 minutes.
Elon Musk's autonomous vehicle has arrived.
Elon Musk recently unveiled his first robotaxi, the Tesla Cybercab, at an event held on October 10. This autonomous vehicle, which is expected to be on the road within a couple of years, has no steering wheel or pedals, meaning it will require approval from authorities for production. With a futuristic design, the Cybercab features upward-opening doors and its cabin is designed to accommodate only two passengers. An innovative feature is that it has no plug, as Musk asserted that the vehicle will charge inductively, allowing for wireless charging.
According to Musk, autonomous vehicles are estimated to be 10 to 20 times safer than those driven by humans and will offer transportation costs of 20 cents per mile, compared to one dollar per mile for urban buses. Tesla plans to launch its autonomous driving technology in Texas and California next year, with the Cybercab going into production in 2026, although there is a possibility that this could extend to 2027. Musk expressed optimism, stating that the Cybercab will be beneficial for road safety, saying it "will save lives, many lives, and prevent injuries."
The prototype was revealed at Tesla's "We, Robot" event, held on a film lot in Burbank, California, where demonstrations took place on non-public roads. In his presentation, Musk emphasized that the innovation of autonomous cars is designed to optimize people's time, allowing them to spend the time they would spend driving on more productive and enjoyable activities.
On the other hand, competition for Tesla is intensifying with the Luxeed S9, an electric SUV developed by the partnership between Huawei and Chery. This vehicle features a high-voltage 800 V battery and offers three different battery options, significantly improving its charging and discharging capacity thanks to its lattice-structured battery made from lightweight materials.
