Even Microsoft Notepad is being updated with artificial intelligence.
Microsoft Paint and Notepad will receive new artificial intelligence features that will allow users to add and remove images from photographs, as well as provide text rewrites.
Microsoft is introducing a new artificial intelligence feature called Rewrite in its Notepad application. This tool, currently in testing for Windows Insiders, will allow users to rewrite sentences, adjust tone, and modify text length in Notepad. Users can access Rewrite by selecting text in the Notepad window, right-clicking in the menu, or using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+I. Upon doing so, a dialog box will appear displaying the AI's rewriting suggestions and a menu with adjustable options like "Longer," "Tone," and "Format" right above the "Replace" button.
For those who prefer to write without assistance, there is an option to disable this AI feature in the app's settings menu. Additionally, Microsoft is also incorporating artificial intelligence features into its Paint application, called Generative Fill and Generative Erase. The new "Fill" feature allows users to edit and add visual elements to photos and drawings by creating a selection box and using a text box to describe the image they want to add. Meanwhile, the "Erase" feature allows users to remove images from photos or drawings by selecting them with a "generative eraser brush" while using the erase tool.
The evolution in the integration of AI tools is notable, as it took more than forty years for Notepad to have a spelling correction feature, whereas now it has only taken a few months to incorporate an AI that can rewrite text and assist in graphic editing.
