EVE Frontier incorporates new elements, such as blockchain technology, into the EVE universe.

EVE Frontier offers a dark yet inviting entry into the EVE universe, serving as an excellent starting point for new players while also introducing unique gameplay elements.

During the recent PC Gaming Show, CCP Games unveiled a new trailer for EVE Frontier, a game that will combine the space simulator elements that made the original title famous with aspects of survival and horror. One of the standout features is that the game will be developed on a blockchain-based structure, offering a promising experience compared to other implementations of the term. Unlike many contemporary proposals, EVE Frontier does not currently include elements like NFTs. The intention of using blockchain is to allow players to write their own code in real-time, thus contributing to the creation of the game universe. CCP’s CEO, Hilmar Veigar Petursson, stated that "it’s not really a blockchain-based game, just as EVE is not a database game."

The blockchain component will function similarly to mods in traditional games, where players can enjoy the original game without needing programming knowledge, although the option for customization and creating their own development environments will enhance long-term replayability. CCP also clarified that blockchain elements will not allow cheating among players. This proposed system sounds genuinely innovative, which is significant in such a saturated gaming market. Furthermore, the company plans to make EVE’s Carbon engine open-source, indicating a high level of trust in the player community, particularly regarding modifications to the combat system.

EVE Frontier promises to deliver more dynamic combat than before, introducing elements of line of sight and cover. Stealth and surprise will play important roles in battles, something that was not part of the original. For those trying to start playing EVE Online now, the experience can seem daunting given its complexity, but EVE Frontier aims to ease the entry for new players. This new title holds great potential and could be the first to utilize blockchain in a way that truly works.
