DJI incorporates the two most requested features in its $199 Neo drone.
Vertical video and faster tracking.
DJI has made significant improvements to its $199 Neo drone, which is expected to become a favorite among users. Originally, this low-cost drone had two major disadvantages compared to the $350 Hover X1. The first limitation was its inability to record video in vertical format, a crucial aspect for content creators on TikTok and Instagram Reels. The second disadvantage was its slow movement tracking compared to its competitors.
Recently, the company has addressed these shortcomings by adding the ability to record vertical videos and improving the drone's tracking speed. According to reports, the Neo can now track cyclists at an impressive speed, even outperforming manual control speeds. Before the firmware update, the drone could not follow a cyclist traveling at 21 km/h (13 mph), but after the upgrade, it has reached speeds of up to 32 km/h (20 mph). This is faster than what can be achieved manually, even in Sport mode, raising expectations for future improvements in FPV flight.
The vertical mode is especially appealing, considering the popularity of social video platforms where this content can be shared. However, there are some limitations users need to be aware of. The recording is restricted to a resolution of 1080p, which is quite grainy, although it can reach up to 60 fps. In comparison, the quality of this vertical format is similar to the horizontal 1080p recording of the Neo.
Additionally, it is important to note that to access the 9:16 vertical video option, users will need to update the DJI Fly app, not just the drone. For those using Android devices, the update must be done through the app itself, and users may need to confirm that it is safe to install it, as DJI has not placed its app on the Google Play Store for some time.
