The Oppo Find N5/OnePlus Open 2 is set to become the world's thinnest large-screen foldable phone, and we already have a sneak peek ahead of its announcement.
Pete Lau, Product Director at Oppo, has shared information about the upcoming Oppo Find N5, highlighting it as the “thinnest foldable smartphone in the world.” To illustrate its slimness, he displayed an image of the device hidden behind a pencil. Shortly after, a Finnish informant named Teme revealed photographs that may show the new model more clearly, emphasizing its thin design.
The images suggest that the Oppo Find N5 has a strong chance of becoming the thinnest foldable phone on the market. One of the photos also reveals the camera design of the device. According to the informant, it has not been confirmed whether the OnePlus Open 2 will be the same device under a different name.
Before Lau made his announcement about the Oppo Find N5, there had been rumors that the upcoming OnePlus Open 2 would also be “the thinnest foldable ever created.” This coincidence suggests that both phones may be versions of the same product, targeting different markets. Oppo and OnePlus were part of BBK Electronics, a Chinese tech conglomerate that is no longer operational, and in 2021, they underwent an unexpected merger that integrated parts of both companies.
The Oppo Find N5 and the OnePlus Open 2 are expected to feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, waterproofing with an IPX8 rating, and possibly a 6,000mAh battery, along with wireless charging. However, the camera systems may differ; the Oppo Find N5 is expected to have a dual-camera setup on the back, while the OnePlus Open 2 might incorporate a 50MP telephoto lens in a triple-camera system.
To become the thinnest foldable with a large display, the Find N5 must surpass the current champion in this category, the Honor Magic V3.
