Discounts on Switch games and controllers during Nintendo's Black Friday sale

It's the swan song of the Christmas deals for the Switch.

During the holiday shopping season, Nintendo games, which typically don't see major discounts, offer a great opportunity to acquire some contemporary classics at a better price. The company, following the presentation of special bundles for its Switch consoles, has announced a special sale for Black Friday that will begin on November 24 and run through November 30.

During this promotion, standout titles from Nintendo such as The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Pikmin 4, and Kirby and the Forgotten Land will be discounted by $20 at stores like Best Buy, Target, and Walmart. Not only will video games be on sale, but also accessories for the Switch, like the Joy-Con controllers and the Pro Controller, which will also have discounts of $20. Additionally, a stylish case for Tears of the Kingdom will see a price cut of $10.

This is likely just the beginning, as early Black Friday deals are already being implemented, and retailers are expected to continue rolling out discounts on more games and hardware as the date approaches. While it is common for stores to be quite aggressive with promotions during Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Nintendo's discounts are not usually as extensive. With the arrival of a successor to the Switch scheduled for next year, it seems the company might be incentivizing sales this season to help retailers reduce their inventory before new devices and accessories are introduced.

Recently, Nintendo clarified that the upcoming Switch will be compatible with games from the previous console, although it has yet to confirm whether this will include physical cartridge versions. Many hope that the new console will retain the cartridge slot, thereby allowing the use of the physical games they already own. However, the trend towards digital distribution has been on the rise in recent years, raising the possibility that one of the leading console companies could introduce a new generation focused solely on digital titles. With the successor to the Switch on the horizon, Nintendo may choose to continue with the current model a bit longer, or make significant changes.
