Delta Air Lines has kicked off its centennial year with a series of significant announcements during CES 2025. CEO Ed Bastian took the stage in Las Vegas on Tuesday night to present plans that include more premium offerings and personalized services aimed at enhancing the passenger experience.
One of the standout new features is the launch of Delta Concierge, an AI-powered assistant that will be available in the Fly Delta app. This assistant is designed to provide customers with “more control and confidence while navigating their travel experience.” Delta Concierge will enable natural language interaction, both via text and voice, making tasks such as booking flights more accessible. Over time, this assistant is expected to anticipate users' needs, provide contextual guidance, and perform actions on their behalf. For example, it will notify users if they need to renew their passports or if there are special entry requirements for international travel. Additionally, it will offer packing suggestions based on the weather at the destination.
The airline also announced a partnership with Uber, which will allow for a deeper integration of its services, ensuring that an Uber vehicle will be available upon exiting the terminal. Furthermore, Uber rides will earn additional Sky Miles.
In addition, Delta is introducing an innovative cloud-based in-flight entertainment system, which includes YouTube in the Delta Sync experience, providing passengers with fresh, ad-free content. Starting in 2026, on some deliveries of new aircraft, passengers will be able to enjoy QLED 4K HDR screens on the back of the seats. This advancement is particularly anticipated, as many passengers have criticized the quality of the current screens. The system will feature a storage capacity of 96 terabytes, which is more than 50 times the average capacity of Delta's in-flight entertainment systems. Bluetooth capabilities will also be introduced across all cabins to facilitate the connection of wireless devices.
Bastian also provided updates on the collaboration with Joby, a leader in electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft. Delta Concierge will integrate with Joby’s air taxi service for trips to and from New York (LGA and JFK) and Los Angeles (LAX) airports in the coming years, subject to approval from federal and local authorities.
