Data breach on senior dating site exposes information of 765,000 users.
Extremely sensitive information from a dating site was leaked.
Recently, two dating sites, both owned by the same operator, experienced significant data leaks affecting more than 850,000 users in total. A notable finding occurred with the Senior Dating site's database, which was detected on a data leak platform. This dataset includes personal information of 765,517 users, leading to the complete shutdown of the site.
The leaks originated from a vulnerability in Firebase, a web development platform backed by Google. Another dating site from the same company, Ladies.com, which focuses on the lesbian community, also suffered a similar breach, affecting 118,809 users and shutting down its operations on December 4th.
The Senior Dating site, designed for users aged 40 and over, contained diverse information such as photos, email addresses, geographic locations, and even habits related to alcohol and tobacco consumption. Researchers noted that notifications about these breaches were made public for the first time on February 25 for Ladies.com and on April 4 for Senior Dating. Despite the vulnerability not being fixed for months, the breach was only uploaded to the leak platform in November.
Given the magnitude and severity of this data breach, it was expected that the company’s response would be more urgent and effective. However, so far, no credit monitoring services have been offered to those affected. There is significant risk of identity theft and social engineering scams, as criminals may have access to emails, passwords, locations, and other information that could be used against them.
Users are advised to be vigilant for any suspicious activity in their accounts and to remain alert for potential scams or unsolicited contacts online.
