"Consume acid to improve design": Bill Gates shares Steve Jobs' bold recommendation.

Steve Jobs once mentioned that he...

Bill Gates, co-founder of Microsoft, recalled a curious anecdote with Steve Jobs, co-founder of Apple, who at one point expressed his wish that Gates had used acid to improve the design of his products. In a recent conversation, Gates shared that Jobs, known for his innovative vision during the 90s and 2000s, made this comment in a context that strayed from the typical discussions about technology. Instead, it was an exchange that revolved around hallucinogenic drugs.

Gates mentioned that Jobs told him, "I wish you had taken acid because maybe then you would have better taste in the design of your products." Despite what one might expect from these titans of technology, the conversation touched on personal topics and their different approaches in the industry. Gates reflected on his own experience with recreational substances, stating that such use had clouded his mind.

While Steve Jobs was acclaimed for revolutionizing product design with iconic creations like the iMac, iPod, iPad, and iPhone, Microsoft under Gates focused on the development of cloud computing software, which has significantly contributed to its current valuation of $3.1 trillion.

In a humorous tone, Gates commented on Jobs' observation by saying, "Look, I got the wrong lot," emphasizing the differences between them. He acknowledged Jobs' ability in marketing and design but stressed that his own strength lay in programming. "I got the coding lot, and this guy got the marketing-design lot, so good for him," Gates stated, underscoring that their talents did not overlap.

Despite the complex relationship between Gates and Jobs, which fluctuated between admiration and rivalry, Gates expressed his respect for Jobs' design and marketing abilities, admitting that he envied those skills. "He wouldn’t know what a line of code means, but his ability to think of design and marketing... those skills I envy. I'm not on his level," Gates confessed.

Furthermore, it was revealed that Jobs was unaware of Gates' previous use of recreational drugs, as Gates mentioned having smoked marijuana during his high school years, a fact that Jobs did not know.
