Civilization 7 by Sid Meier: the latest on Firaxis Games' epic strategy.

Everything you need to know about the upcoming Civilization game.

Sid Meier's Civilization VII is the latest installment in the renowned 4X strategy franchise that began in 1991 on MS-DOS. This new turn-based game, developed by Firaxis Games and the famous titular designer, will be released on PC and modern consoles on February 11, 2025, marking more than eight years since the last version was launched.

Civilization VII promises to expand the possibilities for players to create their own historical fantasies, allowing the combination of civilizations with different historical figures, such as Hatshepsut ruling the Roman Empire during the Age of Exploration. This type of gameplay can consume hundreds of hours of playtime, consistently offering new and unexpected ways to interact with its complex city-building systems. In a three-hour playtest, only the initial levels of the game were barely explored, leaving high expectations for the innovations that Civilization VII will bring to the series.

In this new installment, players will be able to experience new eras, build new civilizations, and guide new leaders. For the first time in the franchise's history, mixing leaders and civilizations will be allowed, opening up a range of possibilities to create unique empires. This approach is a significant change from previous versions where each civilization was typically tied to a specific leader.

In the past, the presence of multiple leaders from one civilization was allowed in some cases, but the concept of combining leaders from different civilizations promises a fresh and exciting experience. Although the playtime was brief, it left a sense of excitement for the various ways Civilization VII seeks to alter the course of history.

Additionally, the new installment will be released on multiple platforms, including PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch. More details are expected to be revealed in August, including a complete gameplay showcase.
