ChromeOS receives a major update that includes Quick Insert, Focus Mode, and new artificial intelligence features.
Pay attention to the new button.
Starting today, ChromeOS update 130 is being rolled out, which includes features like Quick Insert, Focus Mode, Welcome Recap, among others. Chromebook Plus models equipped with an NPU will also receive exclusive features with this version, such as a new recording app that uses artificial intelligence, microphone enhancements, camera effects, and Gemini AI tools that provide summaries like "help me read."
Among the extensive list of changes that update 130 brings, some key features stand out. Quick Insert is an option that allows users to add emojis, GIFs, or links to recently visited sites, as well as access artificial intelligence features from a menu. On most devices, this is achieved by using the launcher or the Google button along with the f key on the keyboard. The Samsung Galaxy Chromebook Plus is the first model to replace the launcher key with a new button that activates Quick Insert with a single touch, although more devices set to launch next year are expected to incorporate this feature as well.
On the other hand, Focus Mode allows users to enable "do not disturb" mode and schedule intervals to reduce distractions while working. Welcome Recap, which is an optional feature, provides a summary of recent activities to make it easier to return to open applications and tabs.
