ChromeOS now has the ability to reset itself without deleting your laptop's data.

It is now less complicated to reset Chromebooks.

This week, Google announced the availability of ChromeOS M131 for users not on the beta version, introducing a new feature called "Security Reset." This tool allows Chromebook users to restart their devices without having to wipe them completely.

The security reset offers an alternative to the Powerwash process in ChromeOS, as it eliminates issues such as unusual virus-like behaviors, such as unexpected pop-ups. However, unlike Powerwash, which performs a total reset, the security reset preserves local data and applications, as well as stored bookmarks and passwords, according to the support documentation associated with this functionality.

Google has indicated that users can access the security reset dialog by pressing CTRL + Shift + Search + R. This option can also be found in the "Security and Privacy" menu or by using keywords like “Pop-up,” “Spam,” or “Virus” in the settings menu or launcher.

Regarding the new “Flash Notifications” setting, this option is available in the accessibility section under “Audio and Captions,” providing an additional visual indicator for those who may not easily perceive notifications due to hearing difficulties or the use of screen magnification. Users can choose the flash color from several options and have a preview button that allows them to see how it will look.
