Canon hints at the upcoming release of three new hybrid lenses: here's what they could be.
Everything will be revealed on October 30th.
Canon is preparing to expand its RF mount lens lineup by adding three new "hybrid" lenses designed for its mirrorless cameras. In a recent post, the company showcased an image of its two existing hybrid lenses: the Canon RF 24-105mm F2.8L IS USM Z, introduced in November 2023, and the Canon RF 35mm F1.4L VCM, launched in June 2024, alongside the silhouettes of three mysterious lenses.
The announcement outlines five clear points: three new lenses will be introduced; these will be designed for both photographic and video use; all will belong to the L series (Canon's nomenclature for its professional lenses); they will be a combination of zoom and prime lenses; and the full reveal will take place on October 30.
Upon analyzing the teaser image, it can be deduced that the largest lens is likely a zoom. It is speculated that it could be the 70-200mm, which was confirmed by analyzing the image while adjusting the brightness levels. However, details about the other two smaller lenses, which are similar in size to the RF 35mm F1.4, could not be clearly identified, although they are believed to be prime lenses.
A few months ago, rumors emerged about the possible arrival of two new prime lenses, the Canon RF 24mm F1.4L VCM and the Canon RF 50mm F1.4L VCM. Comparing the silhouettes with the dimensions of the 35mm strengthens the belief that these new lenses could be real, especially considering that Canon does not yet offer F1.4 aperture lenses for those focal lengths.
So, on October 30, Canon will launch three new professional hybrid lenses, an event that is eagerly anticipated in the photography and video community.
