Cambridge Audio presents its new amplifier and streamer from the EX series.
The renowned British brand Cambridge Audio has introduced its new EX series, which includes the EXN100 music streamer and the EXA100 integrated stereo amplifier.
Cambridge Audio has launched its new premium product line, the EX Series, which includes the EXA100 integrated stereo amplifier and the EXN100 music player. Priced at $1,799, the EXN100 is presented as the "streaming brain of the new series," while the EXA100, costing $2,199, is described as the "best amplifier we’ve ever built." The latter is considered the spiritual successor to the brand's famous Azur 851 range.
This year, Cambridge Audio has introduced multiple high-fidelity products, including the innovative Evo One streaming speaker, the Evo 150 DeLorean Edition integrated amplifier, as well as a new version of its CXA81 Mk II amplifier and aesthetic updates for its VU meters. However, the EXA100, along with the EXN100, represents a new generation in their product lineup.
The EXA100 offers an impressive output of 100 watts per channel with Class AB amplification technology, utilizing amplification modules also found in their $5,000 model, the Edge M. This unit maintains the same quality thanks to the monobloc transistors that allow for high-end sound at a reduced cost. In terms of connectivity, the EXA100 features multiple analog inputs and outputs, including balanced XLR inputs and three sets of RCA inputs for vinyl sources and other devices. It also includes outputs for headphones, preamplifiers, and subwoofers.
Regarding its digital functionality, the EXA100 offers compatibility for watching TV and movies, as well as streaming music, thanks to its HDMI eARC connectivity and digital inputs like USB and coaxial. This ensures a connection to high-resolution audio sources, allowing users to enjoy streaming services like Tidal and Qobuz with exceptional sound quality. It also includes an ESS Sabre ES9018K2M digital-to-analog converter that ensures the purity of entry for all digital formats.
On the other hand, the EXN100 is the new flagship music player in the series. With a DAC derived from the well-known CXN100, it features the ESS ES9028Q2M SABRE32 Reference DAC, supporting PCM digital signal inputs of up to 32 bits/768 kHz and DSD 512, which promises excellent dynamic range and minimal distortion. This device incorporates the fourth generation of the popular StreamMagic streaming platform, which facilitates communication with various services and devices on the home network.
The EXN100 also includes digital connectivity options such as HDMI eARC, USB, coaxial, and TOSLINK, as well as balanced XLR outputs. Users can control the system through the StreamMagic app or with a remote control specially designed for this model. The 1280 x 720 display of the EXN100 is 25% larger and of higher resolution than in previous models, allowing for customized display with digital album art or real-time graphics.
Both products are available on the market, consolidating Cambridge Audio's offering with equipment that combines high sound quality and versatility.
