Bluesky is developing a subscription system, but it will not offer a blue verification.

Bluesky has officially surpassed 13 million users.

Bluesky is developing a premium subscription that will offer features such as the ability to upload higher quality videos and profile customization options. Unlike X's premium subscription, Bluesky's payment tier will not increase the visibility of posts or grant a "verified" status to accounts. In a statement on its blog, the platform assured that it "will always be free."

Rose Wang, Chief Operating Officer of Bluesky, emphasized that subscription revenue will allow for improvements to the app, foster the developer ecosystem, and explore business models beyond conventional advertising. However, paid subscription users will not receive preferential treatment within the app, such as increased priority for premium accounts or blue checks next to their names.

Recently, Bluesky raised $15 million in a funding round led by cryptocurrency investor Blockchain Capital, although it has made it clear that it does not plan to use blockchain, cryptocurrencies, or "hyperfinance the social experience" through tokens, cryptocurrency trading, or NFTs. Additionally, it has been reported that the platform has reached 13 million users, having experienced steady growth over the past year after surpassing 2 million last November. Bluesky attracted many more users following X's ban in Brazil (now lifted) and as a result of the changes X has implemented to its blocking feature. Aiming to capture more users looking for an alternative to X, it has also been targeting dissatisfied Threads users.
