Bluesky aims to surpass X and takes the issue of identity theft seriously.

The guidelines are well defined.

Bluesky is in the process of expanding its moderation team due to the increase in the number of users who have joined the platform. This growth has created the need to implement new measures related to identity verification and account impersonation.

The influx of new users, many of whom come from X, formerly known as Twitter, has been positive for Bluesky, but it has also brought challenges. The platform is actively working to ensure that accounts are managed by the people they claim to be. The Bluesky team is focused on verifying both organizations and public figures, thus ensuring that users are not deceived by fake accounts.

As a social network grows, the issue of identity impersonation becomes more critical. For example, if an important message comes from the account of a leader, such as the President of the United States, it is crucial to confirm its authenticity. Bluesky has stated that it will remove impersonated and unauthorized accounts and that it is quadrupling the size of its moderation team to address this challenge.

Currently, Bluesky allows the creation of parody, satire, and fan accounts, as long as they are properly labeled in the username and biography. However, identity manipulation to deceive others is not permitted. The platform has not shared specific details about the new verification process, such as whether verified users will receive any badge or the methods that will be used to verify accounts, but more updates are anticipated in the near future.

Additionally, Bluesky is seeking user feedback to better understand which verification measures might be effective and which might not. While there is currently an option for partial verification by associating a custom domain name with the account, not all users are inclined to go through this process.

In a recent post, Bluesky emphasized the importance of identifying real accounts, stating that "users deserve to have the assurance that the accounts they interact with are authentic."
