Before YouTube surpassed phones in popularity, I watched it on my TV: here are 3 reasons why it's better on a big screen.

It's time for the big screen.

I still remember the first time I discovered YouTube in 2005. My older brother mentioned that he had found a good site to watch summaries of football about a young player who was gaining notoriety. Back then, it was difficult to watch a short video without interruptions, so the concept of being able to access sports highlights and random home videos uploaded by users amazed me. At 11 years old, I created my first channel on YouTube, where I talked to the camera about WWE and reviewed matches for a small audience. Thanks to YouTube, I developed a keen interest in technology, spending hours watching videos about products I couldn't afford, unboxings, and all kinds of content. Over time, I have seen many of the YouTubers I followed grow, while I stopped creating content, and that young footballer became Lionel Messi, the greatest football player of all time.

Twenty years have passed since YouTube launched to the public, and it has been a constant place in my life where I can enjoy my hobbies through short videos. I have witnessed its evolution, both positive and negative, but it remains my first choice for entertainment. Since my college days, about a decade ago, I have tended to watch YouTube on my television. Initially, when I told my friends this, they often looked confused, as it was believed that YouTube was better experienced on a laptop or smartphone app. However, recently, YouTube's CEO, Neal Mohan, announced that television has surpassed mobile as the primary way to watch YouTube in the United States in terms of viewing time. Last year, YouTube also outperformed Netflix and Disney Plus on smart TVs. This means I am not an isolated case; it seems the world has become as addicted to YouTube as I have been for the past two decades.

If you are still hesitant to watch YouTube on your TV, I can offer three reasons why this experience is worthwhile. First, the quality of videos has improved significantly. In the beginning, YouTube was filled with amateur videos, but nowadays, the best channels have full production teams behind them, creating almost cinematic content. Watching long episodes of travel vlogs or in-depth reviews becomes a much more immersive experience on a big screen.

Second, YouTube Premium is a subscription that's truly worth it. Personally, I pay for several streaming platforms, but I can say that YouTube Premium is the only one that offers real value. Despite having busy days, I've managed to rack up 16 hours of viewing on YouTube in just one week, which is impressive. This service not only eliminates annoying ads but also offers improved resolution and additional features such as downloading videos for offline viewing.

Finally, consuming YouTube content on TV can help save money. By doing so, you might think of the platform as an attractive alternative for nighttime entertainment, which could lead to canceling subscriptions to other platforms, as there's so much content available that it's easy to get lost in it. When exploring YouTube on a television, a wide range of options is discovered that can make one prefer to keep enjoying its content.

In summary, nowadays, many nights at home involve my partner and me watching YouTube content. We have moved away from relying solely on cable television, and we often find that the best productions on topics like gastronomy aren't on Netflix, but on YouTube. This shows that using the YouTube app on TV is undoubtedly more appealing than when viewed on a mobile device.
