Attacker Used Smart Glasses to Record Deadly Assault in New Orleans, 14 Dead

The suspect, Jabbar, was driving a truck that caused the death of 14 tourists.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has provided alarming details about a tragic incident that occurred in New Orleans. According to authorities, the suspect, identified as Jabbar, used Meta's Ray-Ban smart glasses to record his actions. Jabbar drove a rented truck into a crowded tourist area, resulting in the deaths of 14 people and leaving many others injured. He had also placed explosives in the area, which could have caused even more devastation had they detonated. Fortunately, police managed to arrest Jabbar before he could activate the explosives.

Investigations revealed that Jabbar had meticulously planned his attack, using remote-controlled explosives hidden in plastic coolers and uploading videos to Facebook just before his rampage with the truck. In these videos, he expressed his loyalty to ISIS and declared a "war on non-believers." Reports say that Jabbar recorded his actions in real-time to showcase the attack, leveraging the glasses' capabilities that included a 12 MP ultra-wide camera and advanced audio systems, allowing him to discreetly record and upload videos using voice commands.

Authorities suspect that Jabbar had been experimenting with improvised detonators made from everyday items, such as electric matches. It is believed he intended to remotely detonate the explosives from his truck, and the transmitter would have worked had the police not intervened in time. FBI Special Agent Joshua Jackson confirmed that the New Orleans police intervention prevented the explosion by stopping Jabbar before he could activate the devices.

The investigation is ongoing as authorities attempt to unravel the full extent of Jabbar's preparations and his possible connections to terrorist groups. Meta's smart glasses are designed for convenience and creativity, featuring a 12 MP camera and a five-microphone system to provide high-quality visuals and audio. With the voice assistant 'Hey Meta', users can take photos, send messages, and search for information hands-free. These glasses allow easy content uploading to Facebook or Instagram and have discreet speakers for personal audio. Additionally, the Meta View app enhances functionality with interactive tours and special effects, and the glasses come with a portable charging case that offers up to eight additional charges.
