Atos confirms that its systems were not affected by a ransomware attack.
However, a person close to Atos was affected.
At the end of December 2024, the ransomware group known as Space Bears claimed to have breached the internal databases of Atos, sharing the news on their data leak website. However, this statement lacked concrete evidence, such as ransom demands or displays of stolen data.
Atos, a prominent information technology company in France, took the allegations seriously and initiated an investigation. In a recent update, the company clarified that it had not suffered a direct breach of its systems but acknowledged that an unrelated third party had been compromised. Despite this, the incident could have some repercussions for Atos.
Atos's statement reads: "The allegations by the ransomware group Space Bears regarding a breach of the Atos organization are unfounded. No infrastructure managed by Atos was compromised, no source code was accessed, and no intellectual property or proprietary data belonging to Atos was exposed." However, the company admitted that an external infrastructure, not linked to them, had been accessed, which contained information mentioning Atos, although it was neither managed nor secured by the company.
Atos also highlighted that it has a global network of over 6,500 specialized experts and 17 next-generation security operations centers that operate 24/7 to ensure the protection of the group and its clients.
Space Bears, which began operating in early 2024, has managed to attract attention towards several prominent targets, including the Canadian software development company Haylem and two other associated companies. In December 2024, this group also attacked JRT Automatisation in Canada and Aptus in India.
The company was consulted for further information regarding the incident, but no immediate response was received.
