Disney has implemented an interactive and free game at Galaxy's Edge, where visitors can become bounty hunters. Using a MagicBand+ and a smartphone, participants join the Bounty Hunters' Guild and embark on a scavenger hunt throughout the world of Batuu.
One of the most notable features of visiting Disney parks is the total immersion in the themes of each park, and Galaxy's Edge, located at Disneyland in California and Disney World in Florida, is a prime example of this. Visitors can get up close to the famous Millennium Falcon, pilot ships in attractions like Smuggler’s Run, participate in missions at Rise of the Resistance, or simply enjoy a stroll through Batuu, where they can spend credits and taste the famous blue or green milk.
To experience the game as a bounty hunter, visitors must activate their MagicBand+ upon entering Batuu. They will need to find a terminal where they can check in to receive their mission. Once they do, a treasure hunt begins, with the MagicBand+ vibrating and lighting up to indicate if they are close to their prize.
Additionally, using the ‘Play Disney’ app, players can transform their phones into scanners to search for bounties hidden behind doors or walls. This system leverages augmented reality, making the experience even more immersive by allowing players to discover and capture their bounties in an interactive environment.
The careful integration of technology into the Disney park experience creates a sense of wonder. The MagicBand+ not only functions as an entry ticket and payment method but is also essential for accessing this gameplay dynamic. After capturing bounties, players can return to the terminal to tally their credits and receive new missions, allowing them to continuously explore Batuu and its numerous hunting options.
