Apple's SuperDrive USB may have reached its definitive end.

The initiative was launched for the first time in 2008.

Apple has begun displaying its USB SuperDrive as "out of stock or unavailable in all countries" in its online store, suggesting that it may have discontinued this CD/DVD player. The possibility of Apple saying goodbye to the SuperDrive isn't entirely surprising, as this product was originally launched with the first MacBook Air in 2008, a device that lacked an optical drive, making it quite outdated in technological terms.

This year, the SuperDrive was already listed as "out of stock" in Apple’s online store in the United States. On the other hand, the use of physical media has significantly decreased, even though it has recently been reminded why digital ownership can have its drawbacks.

Although the SuperDrive listing remains visible in Apple’s online store, the company has not responded to requests for comments regarding this situation. For those wishing to relive nostalgia, the SuperDrive announcement highlights its features, such as "watching DVD movies, installing software, creating backup disks, and more." However, for those in need of an external optical drive, there is always the option to purchase a non-Apple alternative.
