Apple's News on Mac: 5 AI-Powered Features You Can Try Right Now.

What features of Apple Intelligence are available in macOS Sequoia?

Apple has officially launched its new Apple Intelligence feature with the latest updates for iPhones, iPads, and Macs. While the AI-powered features on the iPhone with the iOS 18 update are receiving the most attention due to their impact on daily life, Apple’s intelligence on the Mac also deserves to be highlighted. With the macOS Sequoia 15.1 update, Macs equipped with an M1 chip or later have received several AI-enhanced features that are now available for testing.

Some of the standout features will not be available until the macOS Sequoia 15.2 update or later, but there are several significant improvements worth exploring. One of these is the writing tool, which allows users to clean up notes (as well as messages, emails, and documents in Pages). If you're a regular user of the Notes app, you will likely find these tools useful, as they facilitate editing, rewriting, summarizing, and organizing text in lists and tables via an Apple Intelligence icon in the toolbar.

Another useful feature in Notes is the automatic audio transcription. You can import an audio file or record directly within the app. However, if an audio file is imported, it must be played back to obtain the transcription, making it more effective to record directly. After recording your audio, you can also use the function to summarize the resulting text.

As for Siri, while a considerable improvement was expected, the macOS Sequoia 15.1 version presents only marginal changes. Siri has been criticized for its utility; however, with the new AI technology, it has become more conversational and is expected to better understand context. Nevertheless, some users have noted that it still struggles with complex tasks, although it can answer basic questions and generate web search results. Important updates for Siri are scheduled for next year.

The Clean Up tool in the Photos app allows users to remove unwanted objects from their images. By accessing the editing mode of a photo and selecting Clean Up, you can click or paint over the object you want to eliminate, though it’s worth mentioning that this tool may leave shadows or strange artifacts that will need to be corrected.

Finally, for those using Mail, Apple Intelligence makes email management easier by providing brief summaries of each message without the need to open it. By enabling the Show Priority option in the view menu, Apple’s intelligence highlights emails considered important, providing a quick summary of each one.
