Apple Pay now supports third-party browsers on iOS and desktop.

Apple Pay is incorporating a series of new features to celebrate its tenth anniversary. Among these novelties is the ability to use the service during the checkout process on third-party websites.

Apple Pay is celebrating nearly a decade since its launch, and the company has decided to commemorate this occasion by introducing some features announced during WWDC. For users with iOS 18 or iPadOS 18 installed on their iPhone or iPad, there are some interesting updates: it is now possible to use the payment service in third-party browsers on these devices as well as desktop computers. To make payments on the latter, users will be prompted to scan a QR code with their iPhone or iPad to complete the transaction. However, this feature will only be available in selected markets.

Additionally, adding compatible cards to Apple Wallet will be easier. Thanks to the new Tap to Provision feature, users will simply be able to bring an NFC-enabled card close to the back of their phone, although they may need to manually enter the security code. Still, this option is not available everywhere.

Regarding new integrations, Apple will begin accepting third-party buy now, pay later (BNPL) services in Apple Pay. This will start with the option to make payments through Klarna in the United States and the United Kingdom, and more installment payment options are planned for the future, with entities such as Citi, Synchrony, and eligible Apple Pay issuers through Fiserv in the U.S. Klarna will also be available in Canada at a later date. It is worth mentioning that Apple removed its own installment payment option earlier this year.

Furthermore, Apple Pay users in the U.S. will be able to redeem rewards with eligible Discover credit cards at checkout, and support for rewards from other issuers and in more countries is expected to expand in the future.
