Apple is expected to announce a new model of the iPhone SE and PowerBeats Pro headphones starting February 11, according to reports. This announcement will likely be low-profile, as the company has not sent out invitations for a physical or virtual event. The new generation of the iPhone SE would represent the fourth edition of this more affordable device, the first being launched since 2022. In its previous release, the third model, which was part of the iPhone 13 lineup, was priced at $429 and featured similar characteristics to the iPhone 8, including the Touch ID fingerprint scanner.
This device has already been discontinued in the European Union because its Lightning port does not comply with legislation on common chargers. Like the rest of Apple's products, it is almost certain that the new iPhone SE will come equipped with a USB-C port. There are rumors that the design of the new model will be similar to the iPhone 14 lineup, which launched months after the last SE. This release could also mark the disappearance of the home button with Touch ID, being replaced by Face ID facial recognition technology.
Moreover, the new iPhone SE is believed to be compatible with Apple Intelligence, just like all models of the iPhone 16 and the iPhone 15 Pro. It could also be the first to incorporate a modem designed by Apple, in an attempt to reduce reliance on external chip manufacturers like Qualcomm. The adoption of this new SE is expected to be significant outside the United States, especially in markets like China and India, which hold the first and second places globally in smartphone sales. Apple has faced challenges in China, where iPhone sales have dropped by 11% compared to the previous year, partly due to the growth of local manufacturers like Huawei.
Regarding the PowerBeats Pro 2 headphones, they are believed to be announced alongside the iPhone SE. These Beats-branded headphones would arrive nearly six years after the first generation. The new Bluetooth headphones are expected to be the first from Apple with integrated heart rate tracking, thus extending its health and wearables initiative beyond the Apple Watch.
Later in the year, Apple is anticipated to unveil M4 updates for the MacBook Air and iPad Air, as well as a new device for its smart home line, which could include a screen and represent its first step into consumer robotics. However, none of these products are scheduled for release on February 11.
