Apple makes changes to its artificial intelligence team and has plans to improve Siri.
A long-time Apple employee will be joining their artificial intelligence team.
Apple is making a change in its executive team in order to boost its efforts in artificial intelligence and improve Siri. Kim Vorrath, who recently played a crucial role in the launch of the Vision Pro software and has been with the company for 36 years, has been moved to Apple’s artificial intelligence and machine learning division, where she will act as the "principal assistant" to AI head John Giannandrea.
Although the company has emphasized its advances in artificial intelligence during last year's WWDC, these have not had the same impact as products like OpenAI's ChatGPT or Google's Gemini. Additionally, Apple has been gradually implementing what it announced at this event, and a major update to Siri that will allow it to understand what’s happening on the screen and act accordingly is not expected until iOS 18.4. Moreover, AI-driven news summary notifications will be suspended with iOS 18.3 following criticism for their inaccuracy.
With Vorrath's addition, who has experience in the team that developed the software for the original iPhone, it seems that Apple aims to strengthen the rigor in the development of its artificial intelligence. This move also suggests that the company considers artificial intelligence to have a more significant role in its future than the Vision Pro. According to a memo from Giannandrea, the AI group is focused on renewing the underlying infrastructure of Siri and improving the company's internal AI models throughout this year.
