Apple launches DIY repair kits for the iPhone 16 series.
Batteries, screens, and other components.
Apple has made it easier to repair iPhone 16 models through its Self Service Repair program, which was launched in 2021. This service allows users to obtain original parts directly from the company, giving them the opportunity to perform repairs economically on their own.
The iPhone 16 models, which include the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max, went on sale in September, and the necessary parts for their repair are now available in the Apple Self Service Repair Store. In countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, and various European nations, it is possible to request both the parts and the tools needed for repairs, although this service is not yet available in Australia.
The parts offered range from screens and cameras to batteries and speakers, all guaranteed as original Apple products. The tools, which include nylon probes and adhesive cutters, are well-known to those who have seen how phones are disassembled.
While the self-repair option is a valuable addition, it also comes with its own set of challenges. Repair procedures can be complicated, so it's crucial for users to feel confident in their skills before proceeding, as they could further damage the device if they are not familiar with the process. Apple provides repair manuals on its website that offer detailed instructions for those interested.
While many will opt to go to Apple or an authorized repair service, it's a positive step to have the option for self-repair. Since the launch of this service, Apple has steadily increased the number of eligible devices, starting with the iPhone 12 series in October 2020.
