Apple is approaching a key decision on the foldable iPhone.

Apple may be close to making significant progress in its goal of developing its first foldable iPhone.

Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone SE 4 in the near future, followed later by the release of the iPhone 17, which will for the first time feature a model called "iPhone Air." Recently, leaks have emerged regarding a new iPhone that could be more innovative, as the company is in the final stages of selecting a key supplier for its next-generation foldable display technology, according to sources close to Apple's supply chain.

This display technology will be incorporated into the company's first foldable iPhone, which is set to launch in the coming years. According to a blog report, suppliers hoping to provide these components must meet current industry standards for foldable phones. Additionally, the selected supplier is expected to offer improvements in durability and fold prevention in the display. Some suppliers from the United States are among those considered to provide certain components, which would signal a significant advancement for domestic manufacturing if it materializes. Apple plans to choose a supplier between now and April, allowing the foldable smartphone project to progress beyond the planning phase.

The foldable smartphone market is expected to reach a value of up to $188.4 billion by 2033, compared to approximately $31.7 billion in 2024, suggesting significant growth in the coming years. Companies like Samsung, OnePlus, and Google currently dominate this market. As foldable phones have evolved, so too have their hinge mechanisms and solutions to issues such as screen creasing. Recent models, such as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 and the Google Pixel 9 Fold, have made considerable advancements in these areas, something that Apple has undoubtedly studied as it prepares to enter this segment.

There are rumors that the company is also considering the production of foldable tablets and laptops, with a possible "giant iPad" that could feature "an almost invisible fold." It is estimated that the first product of this kind could be unveiled within two years, although the launch will depend on Apple's confidence in its ability to carry out production as envisioned.

On another note, concerning the iPhone SE 4, rumors have begun to clarify. Recently, a leaker posted images and a video showing a design that includes a traditional notch instead of the Dynamic Island, which had been previously expected. The images indicate that it will feature a front-facing camera and a single-lens rear camera, along with a glass back and an aluminum frame.

A conflict has also arisen in the UK regarding Apple’s use of eSIM technology. BT Group has lodged a complaint with the country's competition authority, arguing that Apple's strategy could harm its business and limit competition in the telecommunications industry. BT Group, which operates the EE network, the largest mobile operator in the UK by subscriber numbers, has urged authorities to assess the risk of disintermediation in the industry due to eSIMs, which could give phone providers an even stronger market position.

Finally, it has been announced that WhatsApp for iPhone may allow users to have multiple accounts on a single device, a functionality available on Android since 2023. This feature has been introduced in a recent update through Apple’s TestFlight beta program, suggesting it could soon be available to all WhatsApp users on iPhone.
