Apple fixes bugs in macOS Sequoia that affected certain cybersecurity tools.

Apple announced that the new version of macOS "improves compatibility with third-party security software," after causing issues with several cybersecurity tools in the first version of the operating system.

In September, Apple released the latest version of its operating system for computers, macOS 15, known as Sequoia. This update caused functionality issues with various cybersecurity products, including those from CrowdStrike and Microsoft. Three weeks later, the company launched an initial update for macOS 15, called 15.0.1, in which it claims to have resolved these issues. In the release notes for this update, Apple mentions that it "improves compatibility with third-party security software."

Apple announced this release via email and, while additional information was requested from a spokesperson, there was no response. Patrick Wardle, founder of DoubleYou, a security startup for macOS and iOS, and a recognized expert in the field, commented on social media platform X that the update addresses "connectivity issues that affected the initial version of macOS 15." Additionally, he criticized those who blamed third-party providers, suggesting that it was a recognized Apple error prior to the official release.

When macOS 15 was first introduced, numerous cybersecurity experts reported that their tools, such as Falcon from CrowdStrike and Microsoft Defender, were not functioning properly due to a bug in the new operating system. Kevin Benacci, a spokesperson for CrowdStrike, indicated at that time that the company was "waiting for an update for macOS Sequoia" to be able to provide official support for its products on the system. Meanwhile, Ugur Koc, an engineer at the cloud services company Glueckkanja, mentioned on X that the new macOS update "fixes the issue with [Microsoft] Defender for Endpoint and other antivirus software, where the network filter caused problems with internet connectivity." So far, neither CrowdStrike nor Microsoft have provided comments on the matter.
