Apple acquires this popular password management extension.

Firefox has launched its new password management feature.

Apple has launched a new extension for the Firefox browser, allowing Mac users to store, sync, and autofill their credentials. This development is part of the evolution of Apple's password management features for iOS and macOS, which have seen the addition of functionalities such as autofill and password generators in recent software updates.

With the release of iOS 18 and macOS 15 Sequoia, Apple introduced its own password manager, called ‘Passwords’. This tool allows users to manage their passwords from a single application. Now, the company seeks to extend password support to non-Safari browsers.

The new Passwords extension for Firefox is designed for macOS users who prefer this browser. To use it, a Mac device that is synced with an iCloud account and is running macOS Sonoma or macOS Sequoia is required. Upon installing the extension, users will be prompted to enter a six-digit code, enabling the automatic storage and autofilling of passwords in Firefox.

It's important to mention that this extension is not entirely new. Apple has taken over a previously existing extension that already provided support for Apple passwords in Firefox, becoming the sole entity responsible for its maintenance and updates.

Unfortunately, Windows users will have to wait, as the extension is not compatible with Firefox on Windows or Linux operating systems. However, the original extension's GitHub page includes support for the iCloud version for Windows, suggesting that there could be support for Firefox on Windows in the future.
