An error in Windows 11 24H2 moves the File Explorer menu to the top of the screen: here's how to restore it.
A Windows 11 update has caused the 'See more' menu in File Explorer to be off the screen.
Windows 11 version 24H2, the most recent significant update of the operating system, is facing an issue with a bug in the File Explorer menu, an essential tool for file navigation in the system. This problem specifically affects the "See more" menu, which appears when pressing a button with three dots (or ellipsis) and offers various actions, such as "Select all" or "View properties."
Initially, the menu was expected to appear as a dropdown just below the mouse cursor. However, a new bug causes it to show up at the top of the screen, often out of view, making it difficult to read and use, as some options go off-screen. This issue is particularly reported in the full-screen mode of File Explorer, and screen recordings showcasing the problem have been displayed.
Although it is not a critical error, it can be very frustrating. The good news is that there is a simple workaround: to fully access the 'See more' menu, File Explorer should be used in windowed mode, and the window size of File Explorer should be adjusted until the menu is visible, even in its awkward new location.
It seems that Microsoft is aware of this situation and is already working on a fix that will be included in a future cumulative update for Windows 11. While this issue may not be considered severe, this type of puzzling bug is now common for version 24H2 and Windows 11 in general. Although many users will adapt to this situation, there is also the risk that they will seek more functional and less error-prone alternatives.
Meanwhile, Windows 10 remains the most widely used operating system from Microsoft, but it has also been criticized for its tendency to have bugs after updates. This suggests that Windows 11 is not exempt from this problem, at least for now, unless the company puts in more effort to mitigate these issues.
