Netflix will launch a new word game inspired by TED called TED Tumblewords, which will allow players to slide rows of scrambled letters to form words in a stimulating puzzle. This game, similar to Wordle, will be available starting November 19 for Android and iOS devices, although it will require a Netflix subscription to play.
In another arena, The New York Times is testing a new puzzle game titled "Zorse," which focuses on guessing phrases that combine two different expressions. Currently in beta phase, it is only accessible in Canada. A colleague who has tested the game describes it as a creative version of Wheel of Fortune, but with a focus on blending phrases.
Additionally, The New York Times platform is expanding its offerings for NYT Games and NYT All-Access subscribers with the introduction of an archive of old Connections puzzles, which will soon be available on mobile devices. Connections is also continuing to evolve by providing statistics on winning streaks, adding a new challenge for players.
On another note, Wordle has entered the realm of virtual reality, with a native app for Meta Quest, allowing users to play the popular game in an immersive environment. The app can be used on Meta Quest 2, 3, and Pro models.
NYT is also highlighting its word search game Strands, which is now integrated into its games app, making it easier for users to complete all their daily puzzles in one place. In another development, LinkedIn has entered the gaming world, allowing users to participate in daily games and providing statistics on their performance.
Finally, in the realm of competition, several developers have decided to withdraw their Wordle clones to avoid legal conflicts, as NYT has begun sending DMCA notices for copyright infringement. Meanwhile, Hearst has acquired Puzzmo, a new puzzle game site, intensifying competition in this sector.
