After the Storm: X Allows Blocked Users to See Your Posts.

The main news this morning includes a review of the Kindle Paperwhite Signature (2024) and a new tool from Meta designed to identify teenagers who lie about their age on Instagram.

The blocking function on X has undergone a modification. Now, users who have been blocked can see posts from the accounts that blocked them, although they do not have the ability to interact with them. This means they also cannot follow or message those users. X justified this change by pointing out that users could already access blocked accounts if they used an account that was not blocked. Furthermore, the platform stated that the previous blocking method could be used to spread harmful or private information about those who have been blocked, so the new feature promotes "greater transparency."

However, experts in social media abuse criticize this decision, arguing that making it easier for blocked users to see posts benefits harassers and trolls. Claire Waxman, the victim commissioner in London, stated that "allowing blocked users to see posts is catering to abusers and harassers, pleasing and enabling their behavior." Although it is unlikely that this opinion will affect X's stance, the modifications could contradict regulations in the iOS and Google Play app stores. Apple, in particular, states in its developer terms of service that any app with user-generated content must provide "the ability to block abusive users from the service." While the blocking option remains available, its effectiveness appears to have been diminished.

In the realm of video games, Sony has presented a list of over 50 games that will have enhanced versions upon the launch of its new PS5 Pro console. Some of the improvements will include advanced ray tracing and higher frame rates. Notable titles include Baldur’s Gate 3 and God of War Ragnarök. However, the absence of Gran Turismo 7 and Final Fantasy XVI has raised speculation about their availability.

On another note, Netflix has decided to eliminate a significant portion of its interactive content, leaving only four of the 24 available specials. The productions that will survive this selection include Black Mirror: Bandersnatch and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy vs. the Reverend, while other popular specials will be removed.

Finally, Amazon has introduced a new tool for Prime Video that uses artificial intelligence to generate personalized summaries of the content the user is watching. This feature, called X-Ray Recaps, provides brief and easy-to-understand summaries of entire seasons, individual episodes, or parts of episodes, but for now, it is only available in beta for Fire TV users and is limited to content produced by Amazon MGM Studios.
