A Sony Executive Claims That PS5 Pro Pre-Orders Are "Doing a Bit Better" Than PS4 Pro.
Does the price really matter?
Hiroki Totoki, president of Sony Group, shared information about the PlayStation 5 Pro at a recent conference following the company's financial results announcement. According to a report, Totoki described this new console as a "high-end product aimed at specific customers" and mentioned that there was not "a major sales plan from the outset."
The executive noted that pre-orders for the PS5 Pro are showing "slightly better" performance compared to those of the PS4 Pro during the same period. Despite the high price of $699.99 / £699.99, Totoki stated that this has not had a negative effect on the product's sales plan.
The PS5 Pro, which launched earlier this month and is already available for purchase, does not include a disc drive or a vertical stand in the box, which means those who need these accessories will have to buy them separately, thus increasing the total investment for players.
Regarding the overall results of the PS5, Totoki indicated that the company is on track to reach its sales target of 18 million units by the end of the fiscal year, and this has been achieved "without implementing a permanent price cut as we did with the PS4," suggesting that there are no immediate plans to reduce the price of the PS5.
It was also mentioned that the developer of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 highlighted the PS5 Pro as the "definitive version" of the game. Additionally, Sony has patented a PlayStation controller that includes a dedicated rewind button, which could hint at a new feature for future console controllers.
