A Reddit user installed a game engine on their smartwatch and can now play Doom, Quake, and Half-Life.

What an incredible time to be alive!

A Reddit user has achieved the impressive feat of running Doom, Quake, and Half-Life on a smartwatch. This accomplishment comes shortly after another enthusiast from the same platform shared their experience of installing a PSP emulator on their smart watch, which allowed them to play GTA and God of War. The post, published by a user known as u/Ramsey_Doo, has gone viral due to its remarkable technical advancement.

In a series of images and a GIF, Half-Life can be seen running on the smartwatch, with touch controls functioning correctly. When asked by a community member if he also made Doom work, Ramsey_Doo confirmed that he did, thus achieving the remarkable feat of running all three legendary titles on the same device.

Although the creator of the project has not revealed the specific details of his accomplishment, it is suspected that he used Xash3D, a game engine that enables compatibility with the Half-Life engine, breathing new life into this classic. Half-Life, released in 1998, dates back to a time when smartwatches were very rudimentary, with the Seiko Ruputer being regarded as the world’s first smartwatch, featuring a monochrome LCD display of 102 x 64 pixels.

The exact model of the smartwatch used has not been identified, although the person behind this feat clarified that it is not an Apple Watch, which is understandable given the type of hacking required to make these games run. This accomplishment is considered comparable to that of the previously mentioned PSP emulator, which used Bugjaeger to load APKs, thus allowing the game to run at 60fps on a Samsung Galaxy Watch 5.
