A new Catly trailer reveals what the controversial video game is really like.
After generating controversy with its confusing announcement at the Game Awards, Catly has released a gameplay trailer that showcases its actual appearance.
After a somewhat controversial revelation at the recent Game Awards, developer SuperAuthenti Co. has shared a new two-minute trailer for their game Catly. This new clip provides a clearer insight into the game's proposal, complementing the updates made to its description on Steam.
Catly was introduced during the Game Awards through a teaser trailer that showcased highly detailed cats. Although it seemed harmless, the short duration of the clip raised concerns among viewers, who suspected the use of generative artificial intelligence in its development. When questioned about the use of AI, representatives from SuperAuthenti Co. stated that they would not provide further details until 2025. Subsequently, some internet users discovered that one of the co-founders of the company, Kevin Yeung, had started another studio two years ago, which was working on a blockchain-based game with a description similar to that of Catly.
Yesterday, the company broke the silence and confirmed that Catly does not use either artificial intelligence or blockchain technology. In response to critics, the company completely removed the trailer shown at the Game Awards from their Steam page. The new version of the trailer, focused on gameplay and captured in-game, reveals several features that had not been previously announced. Among the updates, it highlights that the game will feature a customizable island, where players can decorate it and dress the cats in cute outfits and accessories.
Furthermore, the trailer showcases a unique artistic style that combines quirky cats with psychedelic environments, maintaining a vibrant color palette similar to that seen last week, but with an overall different look. It is also worth mentioning that SuperAuthenti has updated the marketing description on its Steam page, where previously there were confusing sentences that fueled doubts about the use of AI. The new description is much clearer and details the real features of the game, which will include missions for local characters, flower cultivation, and unlocking skills for the cats, among others.
Another notable aspect is the mention that Catly will include gacha components, suggesting the possibility of luck-based in-game purchases, similar to systems in other titles like Infinity Nikki. It remains unknown whether the game will be an open world, and questions persist, especially regarding its functionality on devices like the Apple Watch and the composition of the team behind the studio.
For now, we have a more precise idea of what the game really looks like on PC. Catly is planned for release in 2025 on PC, Nintendo Switch, and Apple Watch.
