A mobile version of Final Fantasy 14 is being developed by Tencent.

Final Fantasy 14 will be coming to mobile devices, giving a larger number of players the opportunity to enjoy this popular MMORPG.

Final Fantasy 14, the acclaimed MMORPG, is preparing to make its debut on mobile devices thanks to a port developed by Tencent. The new version, known as Final Fantasy 14 Mobile, aims to provide a similar experience to the original, adapting to a format more suitable for mobile play. While detailed information is still lacking, it has been confirmed that both combat mechanics and non-combat features will be transferred to the new format, including visual elements such as weather patterns.

The game will allow veteran players to relive their adventure on a new platform while also inviting newcomers to immerse themselves for the first time in the fascinating world of Eorzea. A specific release date has not yet been announced, although it is planned for China to be the first country to receive it before it expands to other regions. Naoki Yoshida, the game director, mentioned in a statement that after 11 years since the launch of FF14: A Realm Reborn, this new mobile version aims to recreate the greatness of the original's narrative and combat mechanics.

Tencent, a leader in the mobile gaming sector, not only develops its own titles but also collaborates in creating mobile adaptations of other popular video games such as PUBG Mobile, Black Desert Online, and Call of Duty: Mobile. While the MMORPG has evolved to be available on various platforms over the last decade, its initial exclusivity was for PC. Square Enix and PlayStation have maintained a strong relationship, providing multiple exclusive titles for consoles, while this year FF14 made its way to Xbox Series X/S, suggesting a future with more Square Enix titles on this platform.

With the inclusion of a mobile version, the Nintendo Switch remains the only current gaming console that still lacks the MMO. Another relevant aspect is that Final Fantasy 14 offers cross-platform compatibility, allowing players to enjoy the game with friends regardless of their device choice. However, it has not been clarified whether this feature will be available in the mobile version, considering the limitations and significant differences presented by using touch screens compared to controllers or keyboard and mouse. Nevertheless, other Tencent games, such as Call of Duty: Mobile, do not offer this crossplay option with consoles or PCs, although they do allow interaction between iOS and Android devices.
