A major Final Fantasy XIV update brings players a wealth of new content.
Update 7.2 of Final Fantasy XIV is about to arrive, bringing back Field Exploration, along with many other fun new features.
Final Fantasy XIV has been going through a content drought recently, leading many players to focus on leveling alternate jobs and creating elaborate portraits for each of them. However, this situation will change soon with the arrival of patch 7.2. Following a 24-hour maintenance that will begin on March 24, the patch will be launched on March 25. For those who enjoy more challenging content, the Savage version of the new raid level "Arcadion: Cruiserweight Division" will be released a week later, providing an opportunity for gear preparation.
Naoki Yoshida and Toshi Murouchi presented the first encounter of this new level during a livestream, where a boss named "Dancing Green," a male Viera with a comical appearance, was revealed. During the demonstration, Murouchi commented on how embarrassing it is to face such a ridiculous boss with a serious expression. Nevertheless, FFXIV players are already accustomed to confronting quirky bosses.
An interesting feature of the encounter is that it will have a rhythm game aspect, with Yoshida mentioning a "perfection bonus" and comparing the music to a DDR (Dance Dance Revolution) track. In addition to the usual story content and raids, the patch will include updates for PvP, new Cosmic Exploration content, and the upcoming Field Exploration series, known as Bozja.
The Cosmic Exploration is a new type of secondary content that will focus on the development of crafters and gatherers, intended for players level 10 and above, arriving in patch 7.21 on April 22. The theme revolves around building bases on distant planets, starting on the moon and expanding to other locations in future updates. The main mechanics include completing missions, earning credits, and obtaining rewards to upgrade the base. Quality-of-life features will also be added, such as a separate inventory and a permanent sprint button.
Additionally, players will be able to fly in a giant mech suit, destroying crystals to collect resources. This content shares quite a bit with the Firmament experience, even featuring a new version of Kupo Fortune called Cosmic Fortune, where players can exchange "Lunar Credits" for prizes, including a new dye color.
The Field Exploration series, called Hidden Crescent, will be added in patch 7.25, which will be released on May 27. To participate, players must have completed Dawntrail and have a Disciple of War or Magic at level 100. This content will be divided into different instances with up to 72 players. Similar to the Bozja content from Shadowbringers, Hidden Crescent will have its own leveling system, where players will lose experience points if incapacitated unless another player revives them. There will also be a support job system called "Phantom Jobs" that can be unlocked and improved.
Critical Encounters return, giving players the chance to team up and face a boss in timed battles when a sufficient number of players gather. There will also be a weapon upgrade storyline titled "The Phantom Weapon." Two quality-of-life improvements include the ability to summon your mount while moving and a new "trot" state that maintains movement speed for a longer duration after finishing a sprint.
