A failure at Bank of America left customers with blank account balances.
The Bank of America app experienced outages.
This week, Bank of America has joined the list of companies that have experienced service interruptions. Some customers reported difficulties accessing their bank accounts on Wednesday, noting balances that showed $0 or “----” instead of the correct amounts.
Matt Card, a media relations executive at Bank of America, sent an email stating that “some customers are experiencing issues accessing their accounts and information about their balances today. These problems are being addressed and have largely been resolved. We apologize for any inconvenience.”
Reports of issues increased just before 1 PM ET on Downdetector, with numerous users sharing their experiences on X and Reddit, indicating that their balances were not visible, although some noted that their debt figures were displayed correctly.
This afternoon, it was confirmed that the bank’s app was informing users with a message saying “Accounts temporarily unavailable” and that “Some accounts and/or balances are temporarily unavailable,” which had already been reported earlier. However, some users indicated that their accounts were functioning or that they were able to access their data intermittently, so it is unclear how many people have been affected.
In July, Bank of America commented that 58 million customers use its “digital capabilities to help manage their financial lives,” and that last year they connected a record 23.4 billion times. So far, the cause of the problem has not been specified, nor when it will be fully resolved.
